well, most people won’t give it a second thought, but being asked to change my computer time seems

  1. silly
  2. dishonest

your computer stats like IP and time are recorded for many applications.  i am sure that somewhere in someone’s TOS that knowingly setting your system time to make it look like you are in another time zone is frowned upon.  i could even see that for some things it could be construed as fraud

your system time is used by Outlook for your emails, so Linden Lab suggest that i change my stem clock to look like i am in Pacific time.  obviously, i have an issue with this . . .

Login Difficulties

[5:15PM Pacific] We’re currently experiencing an issue with logins. You may see a message that indicates you cannot log in due to the system clock being set incorrectly. As a temporary workaround, setting your computer clock to Pacific Standard Time should allow you to login.

We’re working on resolving this issue as quickly as possible and will post here with updates.

illegal? i dunno, unethical – yes, imo – okay back to manipulating my clock, maybe i can do some retroactive trades on my Scottrade account?
