so you know that we are in Reaction Grid by now and that we have our own grid. actually, we are also official resellers of Reaction Grid (ooh, pass the grey poupon) =D
Reaction Grid is comprised of a team of passionate people that host OpenSim grids for education and business
so what’s the diff between that and Second Life?
well think of a store in a mall. for Second Life, you can own a store in the mall, but you can never own the mall. with Reaction Grid, you can own the mall and set up your own store and stores for others (it’s pretty cool, you can actually add sims yourself and name them anything you want and change their names anytime). and that grid can be fully closed off to the world like Second Life is but . . .
you can also hypergrid to other grids in the world if you want to! w00t!
remember the big hoopla last year about IBM being able to teleport from Second Life to another grid? that’s exactly what you can do with your own grid – connect to other grids in the world – and there are a lot of them and without all the hoopla! =) (what is hoopla anyway? is it like poutine?)
Subquark has been wanting to do this for a while, but did not want to deal with the policy changes that occur isl. this new grid is called Level2Venue and he is creating solutions for
- the eLearning community (your grid is your own copyright, no need to get anybody’s permission to use it for video or textbooks – it even comes with SLOODLE already set up),
- companies that want to expand their “presence” into the virtual world space (this is coming, just like the world wide web 15 years ago), and
- for venues that hold meetings and events and would like to offer the option of virtual meeting space (not to replace the real meetings, but as a way to “connect” better with people – a very inexpensive alternative to teleconferencing with more benefits)
it’s coming along great with some excellent people taking the initiative to see if they like Reaction Grid and wanting to join the team =) (wow, you guys make me all teary eyed – for real, i be a big sap)
look for more information soon on both the iliveisl website and subbie’s almost ready business-centric site
